Blue Horse Dream

(for Marie Wherli)

rust grooves into earth

tracking down

down

the air groaning

scarred walls won from stone

the slab resists

sighs open

its secret stable

pungent

traces of the long-dead

looming

phantom

woad-stained grain of muscle

archaic eye glowing

the moaning rider

leaps onto the monstrous neck

weeping urging into dark
